参考答案:
Dear Peter,
I’m very glad to hear that you will come to Beijing in July.
I’m Li Hua, a boy of 16, presently studying in Beijing Yangguang Middle School, which you will visit. I’m very happy that you’ll live in my home during your stay in Beijing.
I like science subjects very much, especially math, but my spoken English is so poor that I can’t communicate with foreigners fluently. So I think it’s a good chance to practice speaking English with you. By the way, NBA is my favorite game, and whenever I’m free, I will watch it on TV.
Here I’d like to make some arrangements for your stay. Besides your team activities, I’ll show you around some famous museums, and on the weekend, we’ll go to enjoy Beijing opera to experience Chinese culture. What’s your opinion?
Looking forward to getting your early reply soon. Sincerely yours,
Li Hua

The other day at a class meeting we had an argument over _____________________________.
参考答案:
Outer Space Exploration, YES or NO?
The other day at a class meeting we had an argument over whether it was necessary to carry out outer space exploration.
Some of us held it important to research outer space because, first of all, people can get a better understanding of outer space through their exploration. Second, new resources can be found there for human use. Third, this exploration can possibly bring about new living space for human life.
However, others thought very differently. They said this kind of exploration is much too costly. Besides, it is very dangerous for astronauts to do such work.
In my opinion, people should be pioneering(先驱的;开创的)and therefore such exploration of outer space is worth trying out.
三、 阅读理解
21. We often hear people say, “I have a good memory for things like that” or “I can remember names”. But do you know memory is the single most important thing and it has played a very important part?
For early men, there were dangerous all around them----bad weather, wild animals. The keys to keep on living lay in man's ability to remember these dangers and the ways he had dealt with them in the past. In order for memories to be stored, the human brain became more complex. And as man learned how to deal with them, he became civilized(文明).Surprisingly, scientists today understand little about memory and how it works. They have not yet found a way to open up the brain and observe its function without destroying it. Perhaps there are two types of memory: short-term and long-term. Short-term refers to those facts that stay with us for a few seconds to a few hours. For instance, when you stay at a hotel, you remember the room number and forget as soon as you leave. Long-term memory, on the other hand, means you remember things for a long period of time. If you spend your honeymoon in a particular hotel, it's likely that you'll remember your stay quite clearly.
Scientists also believe that a short-term memory can become a long-term memory through consolidation(巩固). A lot of chemical and physical changes take place in the part of the brain. Although the human brain weighs three pounds, it contains 30 billion nerve cells(神经细胞)acting like a computer. When those changes strengthen the links(联系)in certain nerve cells, a though becomes a part of the long-term memory.
60. According to the author, without the development of man's memory there would be _____. A. no modern world B. no recorded history C. no animals D. no dangers 61. Scientists' knowledge about the function of brain is _____.
A. interesting B. not enough C. great D. encouraging 62. Short-term memory can change into long-term memory on condition that _____. A. memory is good B. it acts like a computer

D. the links in nerve cells are strengthened by certain changes
63. So far the great discovery scientists have made about the function of brain is _____. A. the weight of brain B. two types of memory

22. There are many special hotels around the world. In Greenland, there is a hotel made out of ice. In Turkey, there is a cave hotel. And in Bolivia, there is the Salt Palace Hotel.
Thousands of years ago, the area around the Salt Palace Hotel was a large lake. But over time, all the water disappeared. Today, the area has only two small lakes and two salt deserts.
In the early 1990s, a man named Juan Quesada built the hotel. He cut big blocks of salt from the desert and used the blocks to build it. Everything in the hotel is made out of salt; the walls, the roof, the tables, the chairs and the beds.
The sun heats the walls and roof during the day. So the rooms stay warm at night, though it’s cold outside in the desert. The hotel has twelve rooms. A single room costs $40 a night, and a double room $60.
A sign on the hotel’s wall tells guests, \"Please don’t lick (舔) the walls.\" 56. Where did the salt for the hotel come from? A. The salt desert B. The lake. C. The cave. D. A salt field.
57. What did Juan Quesada do in the early 1990s? A. He discovered the desert. B. He built the hotel. C. He visited the palace D. He worked as a tour guide. 58. What keeps the rooms in the Salt Palace Hotel warm at night? A. The water in the lake. B. The sand in the desert.
