transmitted light beam in dependence on the spacing of the article from the sensor, andhaving a control and evaluation unit for the processing of the output signal of the lightreceiver. The invention includes a light receiver that has a multi-element light sensorwhich has at least four individual sensor elements, which are arranged adjacently in such away that different sensor elements are illuminated by the received light beam independence on the beam angle.
